Our project named: Development of a cross-border water tourism destination along the
Lower Tisa section
Project acronym: TisaWaterTours
Poject code: HUSRB/1602/31/0051
Project duration: 01/05/2018-31/07/2019.
The river Tisa has always been a symbol of cross-border cooperation and is one of the primary eco-tourism
destinations in both SRB and HU. Despite the rich and unique natural & cultural heritage along the river, nowadays the infrastructure is often considered outworn and deficient to exploit the true potential of water tourism, especially in the Lower Tisa region. Project partners (Municipality of Csongrád – LB, Algyő and Bečej), with relevant financial, human and technical capacities as well as project experience, have recognized the region’s main tourism and economic development bottlenecks: it does not appear as a unified and integrated CB water tourism destination while the condition and number of ports, stopping places do not meet 21st century requirements. Our project aims to increase the number of visitors with extended tourist stays along the currently less utilised lower section of the Tisa through the development of an integrated water tourism destination based on CB cooperation. Based on the findings of the joint
water tourism development strategy to be elaborated as the first step, new tourism products services (new port facilities information boards in 3 partner towns, joint thematic routes, mobile app) will be developed creating a complex service and interconnected water tourism network. Common visual identity, trilingual interactive communication tools (website, campaigns, promotional materials, etc.) tailored to the specific needs of target groups will build CB water tourism brand. Joint and local events (joint open Tisa tour, special events) attract tourists, while knowledge transfer networking actions ensure the involvement of service providers.
The project respects all the horizontal principles of the programme and EU, is in line with regional national tourism development ambitions, creates synergies with the partners’ existing planned projects serving as a baseline for later developments.
